    キャプテン・オリマーという人の故郷の星である、ホコタテ星特産の野菜、ピクピクニンジンの形に似ていることから名前をとって「ピクミン」という名前がつけられました

    ピクミンはホコタテ名産のピクピクニンジンに似ているからピクミン、オニヨンはホコタテ名産のオニオンに似ているからオニヨン。チャッピーはホコタテ星人のーーー(ネタバレ)の犬の名前です。

    雑誌のインタビューによると開発段階では1匹2匹のピキ、そのあと海外でも呼びやすいようにピッキーと呼ばれていて名前を登録するときに商標登録の関係で他の候補の中からピクミンになったらしいです。
