    I have a question. When there is a Chinese character that is shorter than writing the Katakana or Hiragana out, is that when you use it? (example: 「イース」フェルガナの誓い instead of チカイ)

    I was messing around in Google when I saw that 誓 means Oath in both Chinese and Japanese (when the い is attached).

    Difficult question, isn't it? Each Japanese kanji has its own meaning. But I don't know about Chinese characters used in China regarding the meaning of each Chinese character.

    Japan imported Chinese characters from China and Japanese people transliterated Chinese letters into Japanese words. So, there are more than one readings in kanji. In order to distinguish these different meanings, the Japanese language uses either katakana or hiragana after kanji.

    Ah, that makes sense. I am learning Chinese as a class in school. Speaking Chinese is quite difficult! I noticed that the Chinese character for red (红) was similar to the Japanese kanji for crimson (紅).

    I did not know how most people knew what the kanji meant. Especially kids who probably wouldn't know much about Chinese characters.
