    元々おおガマは、とっても大きなガマガエルだったそうですよ。それが人間(といっても妖怪だけど)に化けた、今のおおガマです。インターネットで、入手方を調べているときに、出てきた情報です。

    昔から日本では「不思議な力を持った動物が妖怪になる」と言われてます。カエルは水や雨を連想させますから「水の神」などとして信仰されて神聖なものになり妖怪になったのでは？と僕は考えてます。 大辞典にもしっかり「ガマガエル」と記載されています。
