    「おやしお」型は1998年に、「おやしお」が就役し、2008年就役の「もちしお」まで11隻建造された。船体形がうずしお型以来の涙滴型から、もう少し前後に細長い葉巻型となった。船体側面を利用したコンフォーマル・ソナーを採用。対ソナー対策として、上構とセイル側面にゴム性の庶音タイルが張り付けられ、セイル自体も音をそらすように逆V字型のテーパー(円錐状に加工した状態)がつけられている。
