i don't think you understand its not "just a game" to a lot of people who choose the opposite gendet

they take it just as seriously and i dont think you're giving enough credit to those gamers

personally, i think making a male character BECAUSE you're a guy and thats the REASON, it seems you

would be LESS immersed in the role because you are already giving it a "real life" prerequisite.

therefore pulling away from the "roleplaying" aspect. i am a very serious RPG player, and trust me

when i say if making a female fits the backstory (even one invented by you) that is more immersive

than choosing a guy simply BECAUSE you're a guy.

in other words, choosing a guy because you're a guy is making it appear to me that yoy are not

roleplaying , or "taking it seriously" yourself. which you claim is the foundation of your reasoning

some people can only immerse themselves by making a character resembling themselves. a lot of people

don't need that crutch to get involved...

but others choose to NOT BE themselves in the game, enjoying playing the life story of someone else

ahh thrre, u see, is the heart of rpg. in a book, you feel attached to the characters as if they are

real, living rezl lives that you are a part of. this is dimilar tp RPGs. this is why it bothers less

people playing as the opposite gender

This thread may be dead, but I'll go ahead and add my 2 cents! Let's focus on a guy picking a female character. If he does this because he wants to look at an attractive woman while playing,...

...I can understand that. If a guy picks a female character in single player game, I can understand that too. If a guy picks Peach or Daisy in a multiplayer games because of her abilities, I can...

...understand that too. But, MH is different. The communication aspects in the game, to some extent, draw you out of the game. When talking with people, you're not a monster hunter, you are you.

I've yet to play with someone who talked like they were really at a port or really in danger. I've yet to play with a guy using a female character and talking with a woman's voice.

The point being, in this game, if a guy chooses a female to represent himself, it's inherently misleading when talking to others. Some people are comfortable misleading others like this, some aren't.

If a guy wants to play MH as Buffy the Monster Slayer, go for it! But this decision means others will likely assume this guy is a female when talking to him. So, is being Buffy worth misleading...

...others? To some it is, to others it isn't. But, it makes since to me for anyone to not want to be mislead.

IT LOOKE Like i have a lot to say in a "dead" post. lol! first, @jimi, it certainly isn't from a stand point of ignorance. I know it has nothing to do with maturity, in a sense. however, it does to

some extent. it's a focus of pre-judgement. and a little thing that occurs as we mature is a lessening of pre-judgement. For some, this takes longer than others, especially in this circumstance.

and to (those symbols)vin. it doesn't mislead anyone! That's the most insulting thing to say on the subject! (ie, replace "guys" in this context with "white guys" and "girls" with "black guys")

it is the same example from a gaming perspective, since you aren't trying to date thrm. the very nature of playing a videogame removes that issue.

would you tell me i was being misleading toward you if my avatar in this game was black and you discovered i was white? if no, you're being hypocritical; if yes, you prove my point concerning maturity
