Pierce S, BnA, and lances all do pierce dmg, but the game treats it differently depending on the weapon. For example, Pierce S can't sever tails but a lance can. I'm confused.

    Because lances do cutting damage. Arrows can only do cutting damage with the melee attack.

    And Bows only do Pierce when they have that type of shot.

    The only "Pierce" damage is on Lances, which is actually still Cut damage. Cut, Impact, Shot and Neutral (Bomb) are the 3 damage types

    *4, forgot I added Bombs. Lances situationally use either Cut or lessened Impact values on their Cutting attacks, whichever gives more damage

    I was promted to post this because quite a few people on the GameFAQs forum boards claim lances inflict piercing damage instead of cutting and I've heard otherwise. Hence the confusion.

    As I mentioned, Lance "Pierce" damage is their use of either Cutting or Impact hitzones for damage value purposes. Lance Cutting attacks (not Shieldbash) do Cut damage with this Lance-unique property

    Ranged weapon attacks do Shot damage; PierceS and the Bow equivalent do Shot damage as they pass through (hence piercing) a monster, hitting one or more hitzones. Hope this clarifies everything
