    I ask it to take change to a channel listed, but it takes me to blank channels that I don't recieve.

    Did you try using a different signal type under TV remote settings? Are you using a digital signal?

    My problem was that the Wii U would't recognize channels like 7-1, or 7.1. Instead it would input 71

    sounds more like its a problem with the cable package / zip code. i'd start there.
