Yes but with some changes. The MMX games takes place 1 century later. Mega Man and the others doesn't makes an appearance and are never mentioned in the X series (except for Dr. Light and Dr. Wily)...

Mega Man can slide (Down + Jump button) while X can dash (Dash button or double-tap left or right) but in Mega Man X1, you need to acquire the Boots upgrade. There are armor upgrades for X.

Back to story. In the X series, both Dr. Light and Dr. Wily are dead (between MM10 and MMX1) but a Dr. Light A.I. appears in every armor upgrade caspule and Wily appears in flashback in MMX4 and MMX5.

Robot Masters don't exist in the X series. The robots in the X series are called Reploids (replicated android). Evil/corrupted Reploids are known as Mavericks (which are the bosses in the X series).
