Match Analysis: Mario vs Sonic

I'm actually shocked I didn't think of this sooner. Let's have an old rivalry resurface! How 'bout it? Who do you think has the advantage in this match up and why? Let everyone know so we can all learn a little.

    Depends on how the character fights. I've seen many Mario vs Sonic Battles and Sonic has seem to hit the top of the ladder before Mario.

    Plus, lots of people hate this rivalry due to Mario getting beaten a lot and other such info. Plus, if it were to be an actual battle or death battle, Sonic would still win. Screwattack doesn't lie.

    In this game, ehh tbh I think they're about even. All in all, it depends on the players. Mario's got some mad power, but isn't very fast. Sonic, on the other hand, is very fast, but doesn't have a good launch. Speed vs Power Well, if the blows manage to hit, they'll do a lot of damage. But on the other hand, if you're too fast, the blows won't be able to get ya.

    Of course players matter. The characters do to. This is all about which character has, at their core, a natural advantage over the other, because of the character's abilities compared to the other. Which is why I feel that they're even. Their kits counter one another very well.

    Oh boy. Looking at frame data, both have great ones, but Mario's is a bit better. Jabs (their fastest moves) are both frame 3, but Mario has lots of frame 4-9 moves, while Sonic -only a few. His Up Smash outspeeds all Sonic's smashes (they aren't even that strong), Bair and Fair. With that said, Sonic is notorious for being VERY hard to hit due to his insane speed. Seriously, Falcon's (2nd place)

    Has 2.32 ground speed multiplier, while Sonic has staggering 3.5. So, it's hard to catch him. Also, Mario being fairly heavy doesn't help him much, as this gives Sonic lots of Spin dash combos and Up Air kills off up special even worse to handle. Fireball does stop Spin Dash, so Sonic might have problems approaching with that, but seriously, with that speed it's very hard to not get in and out.

    However, Sonic likes punishing stuff, which can be hard with Mario, because his moves are very fast and not too laggy (Except FSmash and Fair). Offstage -Sonic wins. Not-so predictable recovery, however pretty gimpable. Mario's is suprisingly meh. And very linear. So, dair from Sonic after Mario used double jump? Boom, stock. And Sonic can act after Spring Jump, so he can reliably avoid punishes.

    Generally, yeah, seems even. Sonic might have easier time racking damage, but Mario will KO better.

    Edward, it won't be that easy. Mario can reflect, but Sonic is able to cancel his spin dash and spin charge. Plus, Homing attack has a great effect of quick draw, meaning that it would be too fast for Mario to get perfect timing.

    Plus, Sonic is faster with attacks so he would have an easier time racking his KO percentage on Mario to gain an advantage.

    Alright, after doing the research, and seeing many different opinions online. I gotta say, that my stance still stands. This match up, without a doubt, is a 50/50 even match up.
