Why is doc worse than mario?

i like to play doc mario but i dont see how he's supposed to be stronger if normal mario can kill at earlier/the same percents. i.e. can we get some more muscles/spinach or something for doctor marios strength, if hes supposed to be slower?

    Doc technically does do more damage and kills earlier for some of his moves. The problem is that speed trumps power. Just look at all the top tiers. This applies to fighting games in general, not just Smash. This game is all about frame data, and Doc is just too slow. He also probably has the 2nd worst recovery in the whole game behind Little Mac..

    Yeah, Doc has exceptional frame data and power, but lacks speed (ground and air), has a predictable recovery, and his combos are a tad worse. By no means is he a "bad" character, he's just not as good as Mario.

    He deals more damage, but is slower, has more knockback on his moves, and has garbage recovery. In other words, quit Doc and play Mario. No point in playing an inferior clone.
