The 2600 (actually VCS at the time) depicted here is the one I own and display proudly in my home: the original six-switch iteration from 1977! Mine is even better, though, because it has been modified for composite audio/video and stereo sound. You wouldn't believe how awesome the bleeps and bloops from "Yars' Revenge" and "Tunnel Runner" sound on my 7.1 channel home theater system.

  • I got a heavy sixer and a Pong C-100 with the box and inserts several years ago. I don't think I've ever been more satisfied with game console. I'm not letting them go even after they wear out from age.

  • Agreed. You needn't worry about the 2600 dying on you; those things were built like tanks. What are some of your favorite VCS games?

  • Some of my favorites are Berzerk, Cosmic Ark, Demon Attack, Dragon Fire, Missle Command, and Space Invaders. They're far from being favorites, but I also have 2 of the Star Wars games and a 2 Nintendo titles. I'm disappointed about not being able to find the Star Wars games right now. I don't see a reprint ever happening. I also like the novelty of seeing Mario and Donkey Kong as 3rd party titles.

  • All great choices. My favorites include most of the Activision titles (H.E.R.O., Keystone Kapers, River Raid), Jr. Pac-Man, and Tunnel Runner.

  • Imagic is definitely my favorite developer for the system. I also like the 2600 version of Battlezone and the Tempest prototype that are on the ds version of Atari Greatest Hits Volume 1.

  • I think the 2600 version of Battlezone surpasses even the arcade version.

  • I read a review that said that before I played it. I dismissed the claim that it could have passed for an nes launch title as exaggeration. I don't think I've ever been happier about having underestimateed a game.

  • If you like that, check out Robot Tank from Activision. It's a similar experience, but the weather conditions change and you can take damage gradually. Another technical marvel from the fine folks at Activision, the kings and queens of the 2600.
