I need another Link main's opinion...

What if Link's Side Special was effected by smash throwing, like Samus's Missile? Normal throwing it makes it a complete windbox going in and out (represented by the Boomerang having white streaks), and smash throwing it makes it a strong hitbox going out like it is now and has multiple hitboxes coming back (having mint green streaks). What do you think?

  • That would be interesting but.. it wouldn't work since the difference between samus side B is that link can control the speed and distance of his throw. which is what makes link a diverse range user.

  • If they ever bring Young Link back that would be cool to see.

  • But think about it...your new windbox can setup edgeguards or disrupts much easier, while you gain the benefits of having a returning hitbox. Albeit the returning hitboxes are weak slashing multihits that are easy to SDI and aren't as strong as Toony's returning hitbox, they also turn the foe around. This would actually benefit Link greatly.

  • I thought there was a smash version of boomerang. I thought it would just go a bit farther. But if we had a distinct difference between smash side b and tilt side b it can provide some interesting possibilities to Link's game play.

  • @Keven he can smash throw it, but like you said, it only adds slight distance. I only compared it to Samus's Missile because she has two different missiles that work entirely differently by normal or smash inputting. I just want some more variety for Link as well, and this way, he benefits from it, too.

  • So the smash throw version should be like the Super Smash Flash 2 version of the boomerang? That's ok, but it MUST not be able to pull you straight to the blast line like in said game.

  • Of course, I've seen that too and thought it was too much. Clever to have noticed where I got inspiration for this idea though! That's why I said the hitstun would be weak and the SDI multiplier would be Bayonetta level (post-patch). Toony's would still have the better Boomerang in terms of the hit coming back. It would just be a great thing to use for a different kind of disrupt (combo breaking).

  • I'm always up for characters getting more technical. After playing Ryu so much, I kinda wish everyone had his mechanic of a different input coming out depending on whether you tap or hold the button. Everyone could get entirely new moves.
