So Mewtwo's Top Tier Now...

According to ZeRo, Mewtwo is #9 on the tier list, an impressive jump up from #37 on the official 4BR Smashboards tier list. Mewtwo, despite only seeing slight buffs in 1.15 and no changes in 1.14 or 1.16, has risen 28 spots in 4 months. What do you think caused this huge jump, and what do my fellow Mewtwo mains feel about finally being recognized as top tier?

    That was ZeRo's personal tier list so its not official But regardless of ZeRo's thoughts, Mewtwo could be, if not is top tier

    i learned not to put to much stock in ZeRo's tier list when he put corrin in top 10 and tried to encourage campy sonic

    While it is ZeRo's opinion, you do have to factor in that Abadango did win Pound with Mewtwo. And that's huge. Frankly, I do think Mewtwo is top tier (capable of winning a national; which he has) and the factors that lead into that are a combination of his small, but important buffs and players just getting better with the character.

    Aba also barely lost to Mr. R (2nd set of grands) in a tournament in Australia a few weeks ago. What kills me is when people think 1.15 was the reason Aba won Pound, when it was actually because of 1.13 (before the tier list) when Mewtwo got HUGE buffs. I just think it's crazy that one National win can cause a good character to shoot up. What if a Jigglypuff won EVO? Would Puff rise to top tier?

    If a Jigglypuff won a national, then yeah. She would shoot up like a rocket. "Top tier" characters are ones who are able to win nationals. Anything below are capable of winning one, of course, but have a smaller chance to do so. With how early and volatile the Smash 4 meta is right now, it's very possible to see a mid/low character pull a win at a major or national.

    I don't know if I follow your logic. If one really skilled player can win with a bad character, why would that make them rise drastically? If Mewtwo was garbage and Aba was the only person who could play him properly, why would he be top tier? If Puff won EVO, that would speak more about the player being one of the best in the world rather than the character being one of the best in the game.
