How do you choose your mains?

i'm just curious how do most of you choose your mains? Do you pick characters based on who you like or how they fight or based on how good they are considered in the game?

    I go by play style. I use Peach and she is a very fluent character once you master her movement options and neutral

    All three. I chose PAC-MAN because I was familiar with the character, I liked his moveset, and he was low-tier, and low-tiers are fun.

    I pick my main based on how well i can control the character, so i main dark pit, reflectors, projectiles, an exellent recovery, and the side special can set up edge guarding, and has super armor

    I choose my mains from how much I like them from their game of origin or if I like their play style. I have very few high tier mains because I never like to be too OP. I'm all for wrecking someone while using a low tier character online. Underdogs for life!

    Wow alot of option 2s and 3s i'm suprised I guess i'm the only one who lets brand loyalty sway me. @Zircon i'm suprised you didn't choose Sonic, he is a literal walking one. guess you're just too slow for Sanic speed.

    I main rosaluma, meta knight, and ganon. I main MK and Ganon purely because their movesets feel solid to me. Rosaluma is a whole other story though. I main them because she's one of those video game characters i like on a more personal note.

    This was very intresting. I pick my mains (Mario,Robin,Bowser,DeDeDe) because I enjoy them as characters, and pick secondaries (Pikachu, C. Falcon,Meta Knight) because I like their moveset.

    Because I love the way they all play. I enjoy a character, I might main it. I try them online, after some fights I know if I want to keep improving with them. Two characters (R.O.B., Dedede) had a little head start because I really liked them in Brawl already. (not competitive, I was a noobish noob). Fire Emblem ladies I picked partly because I got hooked in newest FE games (Awakening, now Fates)

    I did pick Corrin before getting Fates, due to wanting to use one DLC character and her feeling great to use. Thing about Alph is weird. I didn't like him in Brawl and was meh towards him in 3DS days. Then, I got Wii U version and decided to give all characters another chance. And I ended up loving Pikmin guys' playslyle. So yeah, the reasons I chose those 5. It just comes naturally.
