Kinda off topic, but has anyone played Chrono Cross??

Help a guy out...I was gonna get Chrono Trigger (hyped to play what I've been told is one of the best RPGs!) but then I noticed that I can get Chrono Cross pretty cheaply, like $10. Is it a good game? I've heard nothing but good things about it, but I thought I'd ask for your guy's opinion.

  • Ok first off if possible get the DS version of Chrono Trigger. That version has additional content and the PS1 extras without the loading times. Chrono Cross is unique and is one of my favorite RPGs personally. You only gain levels after you beat a boss. In battle you can have 3 party members. You have a gauge for each party member which shows how many attacks you can use. A weak attack...

The gauge maxes out at 7. You have to actually buy "magic" in the game. They are called elements and you have to equip them. They have 6 different attributes. All enemies and characters have an innate attribute...

By using normal attacks you build up your element level corresponding to the number of points you expend for each one that is successful. Using an element of ANY level will drain your action gauge by 7 points making it impossible to do other actions with that character. When the gauge is below...

It holds 3 element colors at a time. Whenever an element is used that color gets added with the earliest color getting removed. Basically if you use a blue element attack on an enemy with a red innate element color while the...

Anyway this was the first RPG I played where your answers to questions actually affect major things in the plot such as what characters you can recruit. There are A LOT of recruitable characters in the game. The storyline is amazing in my opinion but VERY complicated. Bah...out of posts.

  • Chrono Cross needs multiple playthroughs to recruit everyone.

  • Hey, thanks for the awesome advice you guys. And @krossjosh. I would get it for the DS, but I am going to play through it with a friend, so it would be much easier to do that on a TV. I'm willing to deal with the loading times for that.

  • No problem. Honestly Chrono Trigger is the more solid game of the two in my opinion but Chrono Cross's plot is something I still think about to this day and I played it back when it initially released. I think it could benefit from some retranslation since some plot specifics got a bit of a runaround with the initial localization. Thing is the DS version of Chrono Trigger got a complete...

I have yet to play any videogame that has a storyline more engaging than Chrono Cross's. That's my personal (and probably very biased) opinion though.
