I think my fundamentals are officially gone or weren't there to begin with.
I don't usually take For Glory but this time was an exception. I decided to go with Falco while my opponent opted for Captain Falcon. He was leaving himself open A LOT but I forgot just how difficult it can be to approach with Falco. I beat him the 4th match and opted to switch to Ganondorf. After his Captain Falcon...

...opinion. To me fundamentals are everything because I don't know who my main(s) is/are. However that is MY problem so if I'm limiting my potential by playing too many characters then I have only myself to blame. Also there are two kinds of respect when I think of this game. There's good sportsmanship then there's acknowledging what your opponent's character is capable of. Disrespect...

...exists in both forms. In the latter it sometimes manifests in the form of a person taking a huge risk and having it payoff in a stock or the match. The former can sometimes manifest in the form of attacking an off-stage opponent who cannot possibly recover for an unnecessarily flashy KO. Both forms of disrespect are seen all the time in high-level play. These two forms of respect and...

...disrespect are essential in competitive Smash gameplay but it's the disrespect that gets the most hype at tournaments. I'm ashamed to admit that taunting gets to me especially lately. It's a pretty glaring weakness in my competitive mentality. Anyway you can feel free to tell me what you think of my views on respect and disrespect are in the competitive sense.

Well hey, don't judge yourself from one rotten day on FG. We all have those cringe-worthy days where even the easiest noobs have no trouble beating us. It sucks, but once you go back after getting some rest, you'll learn that you were probably just on what a lot of players call "autopilot", which means you're doing the same thing without really realizing it or mixing it up. So don't worry.

Yeah, I've had alot of days like the one you've had. Taughting and tag changes get more to me than I wish they did. Normally I just take the character select time to try to calm down, but I'd be lying if cooling down was all it took to win. Sometimes my opponent is simply better. Seeing this also reminds me I need work on my Link. Like the player you played, I rarely use bombs or z-air, yet I ...

... normally don't have trouble with winning. That sounds a bit cocky. To rephrase I feel like against most players, my Link is just as solid as my other characters without using bombs. I really need to learn to use those. Kinda weird how I've put more time into him than all my other fighters, yet my fighting style is just so... basic with him. I guess my victories with him are just luck.

Andrew playing with strangers online is always more infuriating than playing with contacts. I was just making an attempt to vent. Truthfully I was worried about you reading this post because the last thing I want to do is discourage you from playing Smash 4. Rest assured when lag is minimal on your end luck has nothing to do with your victories. Anyway you know what I'm dealing with so yeah...

...I decided to rant. Also Daniel thanks for the encouragement. It is greatly appreciated. I know your words are sincere since you are a knowledgeable Link main.

You don't really need to worry about me getting discouraged. I've never really had problems with stuff like that. Most of the time stuff like this makes me want to play more. Games would be pretty boring if you couldn't improve upon anything.

Heh...the drive to improve just for the sake of improving yourself. Back in Brawl that desire was quite prominent in me. It was my first experience playing a fighting game online so that was a huge factor that contributed to how I felt. I have the same desire in Smash 4 as well but I feel like it doesn't burn as brightly as it used to. I could be wrong since I REALLY enjoy this game.

Yeah, Smash Bros. is the only fighter I've played somewhat seriously. I never once played brawl online though, which was a real shame. I went directly online when I got smash 4 and it made rhe game WAY more enjoyable. I think I already told you this before, but I was always stuck playing the CPU since my friends honestly aren't any good at smash. My friends would make a handicap by doing 3 v 1s...

... and 100% ratio, but I never lost. You've played me before, so you know I'm not particularly amazing at the game. So eventually I learned enough tricks to completely negate everything the CPU did, so once I got smash 4, it was a real kick in the teeth when I realized how much of a novice I actually was. I finally got a challenge, and like you said, I want to improve just to improve.

*Nods*...online capabilities was a huge game changer for A LOT of people who played fighters but didn't have tournament experience. The majority of people who play fighters don't attend tournaments so it was (and still is) a big deal. I was lucky enough to attend one Brawl tournament but that's it. My point is that I fall into that majority.

Tournaments seem like alot of fun. I think I'll attempt to attend some after I better myself a bit more. For now I'm content playing online.

Same. I need to figure out who I excel with before I even consider going to a Smash 4 tournament. Matches are best 2 out of 3. I obviously cannot cycle between 31 characters in actual sets.

From what I've seen from you Krossjosh, you've been struggling to find your main for a long time now. Although it may seem obvious, heres some Smash Philosophy: Stop trying to FIND the character the you're best with. PICK a character you like, STICK with it, and MAKE it amazing for you. You'll never find a character that'll be your "perfect match". No matter how many characters are ever...

...in this game, they aren't going to change their mechanics to match what you're looking for. You gotta take the step towards the character basically. Pick one and COMMIT. Be flexible. Learn to work with the character's strengths and weaknesses over time, and don't give them up. That's how players improve. Somehow I feel this advice applies to much more than Smash haha

I definitely am reluctant to commit to a few select characters for whatever reason. Truth is I enjoy playing as a lot of characters. That's definitely a factor. I think you have the right idea though. Single out the characters I enjoy playing as the most and stick with them.

Anyway Solution thanks for your input. For the first time in a long while I'm dropping a few characters and your words acted as the catalyst for that. I really do appreciate it. I don't think I'm anywhere close to figuring out my mains but for all I know I could be wrong. Also I would like thank everyone else for participating in this conversation.
