If a tactic isn't working during ranked battle, don't keep doing the same thing over and over.

I specialize in custom panels and lamp/light fixtures, as well as sculptural stained glass. I also enamel, paint, and etch glass. Do you work with glass?

not yet!! but i have some ideas for my house etc.. had a family friend/ owner of a glass shop years ago. i will be very scary trying to even cut/ snap pieces, grind etc. My plan is to groove some wood and insert colored/ textured glass to hang in front of my kitchen sink light, let the light shine at/ into the glass from behind. Whole piece would be about 30w by 8-12high??? no choice on color yet

i don't even know about tools/ techniques etc. i have a patio/porch that "needs" some glass tossed into it.. lots of sun to play with. Thinking about some candle box type of thing, maybe even some glass with water flow on the pond. Light, noise, water, tranquility kind of thing/vibe. BIG ideas bound to no ability.. that's how i seem to start many things.

That sounes really amazing, you should send me a picture of the finished piece. And if you are wanting to learn the basics of stained glass, I would recommend YouTube. Just put "How to make stained glass" or "How to cut glass" etc, pick a video, then follow the related videos from there.

Usually I tell people to practice cutting on old broken window glass. Usually you can find old windows free on craigslist, and that's great for practice. As far as tools, your most important tools are your grinder and your soldering iron. Everything else you can cut corners on. For the grinder, I recommend Glastar, they have different price points and levels, but are very well made.

For your soldering iron, I personally prefer the Hakko fx601 model. It's variable temperature control and ceramic core give you great control and the ability to work leaded or lead free solder. It's also fairly reasonable in price, around $45 on ebay. Beyond brands, when looking at cutters, go for a pencil grip with a good diamond head, it will be the easiest to learn with.

The basic tools you will need are: Glass cutter glass cutting oil (helps your score go deeper and the glass will break cleaner) grozing pliers breaking pliers (metal not plastic) Flux paste copper foil appropriate to the glass thickness fids solder That's a basic list of every thing you need for making stained glass. There are extras like grinder oil, and braided wire for reinforcing.

appriciate it, especially the old glass tip. i tossed out some several weeks ago. figures. does any decent drill bit work, do you place tape over the point to negate cracks? i will certainly not go super cheap on tools, bad/flimsy tools is bad for soul & work, pushes me out/exasperates Vs pulling me in, makeing me happy. l will be weighing ideas, plans, ability soon. Looking forward to ALL of it

I don't understand what you mean by drill bit? Are you referringto the grinder bit? You use the grinder to smooth the edges of each piece and to ensure a proper fit. The grinder will typically come with appropriate bits, and any hobby store that has glass supplies should carry them as well.

i was thinking more towards drilling small holes in glass, to attach some type of fishing line, heavy thread or even a leather shoe lace, ... for a mobile or chime type of work . Wonder if some tape placed on glass would save it from shattering while drilling, attempting to drill
