E3 2016 Hopes/Predictions

With just about a week to go till this year's E3 kicks off, I figured I'd make a post to share my hopes for what new game announcements the expo might hold. Because of the character limit, I'll be posting said hopes in the comments below, so check it out, why don'tcha? Feel free to drop your own wishlist down in the comments as well!

  • 1.) Mario Kart 8 DLC It's been (potentially) hinted at by Nintendo of UK via their Twitter page that Mario Kart 8 could be getting an extra wave or two of downloadable content, including the stage Kalamari Desert from MK64. Personally, I would absolutely love for this to be true, though, while it's a fine stage, Kalamari Desert wouldn't be among my top choices to bring back. I would love to see...

  • ...Coconut Mall and Maple Treeway from Mario Kart Wii/7 brought back as Retro tracks yet again, as they are among my all-time favorites. In terms of new characters, just give me Bowser Jr. and I'm good to go. I saw where someone online had joked that Kalamari (Callie + Marie) Desert could hint at Splatoon cross-DLC, which my naive mind could actually see happening, though I'm not exactly a...

  • I'm hoping for NX/ Sun & Moon/ Zelda details, Gold, Silver, and Crystal 3DS, Gamecube games and Mother 3 on the EShop, and possibly a new main series Metroid game teaser (hopefully).

  • ...super-duper Splatoon fan, exactly. I can totally see MK8 getting more content, seeing as Nintendo's Wii U library seems pretty scarce this year, with the NX having been rumored to have been originally scheduled for a 2016 release but delayed. It wouldn't surprise me if even games like Smash and Splatoon that are supposed to be pretty much done with updates end up receiving extra DLC to...

  • ...make up for this drought and keep the momentum going till the NX's launch. I believe even the new president, Kimishima, said DLC would account for a large portion of Nintendo's revenue this year, so... yeah.

  • 2.) Okay, so the majority of Nintendo fans aren't exactly hyped for Paper Jam (which I'm gonna go out on a limb and say is the fault of meddling Miyamoto, whom I love, don't get me wrong), but I do think the game could have potential. Granted, a floating paint can with pupils doesn't compare to the likes of Goombella, and the RPG mechanics look every bit as bad (If not worse!) than Sticker Star...

  • ...,but more than anything, I'm curious to see what new environments the game may have to explore, which may be one of the game's only redeeming qualities. Granted, we don't yet know that Color Splash (which I may have mistakenly called Paper Jam earlier— if so, my bad) won't feature original characters and a compelling story, but that's why we need to get new information soon.

  • Additionally, given how amiibo-crazy Nintendo has become, I could see them releasing a Paper Mario amiibo figure, which I would absolutely LOVE. Thousand-Year Door is among my favorite games of all-time, as is the underrated Wii sequel that should've had a better name, so a Paper Mario amiibo would slap me silly right in the nostalgia gland. (Is that... is that a good analogy?)

  • @Glurp: Yes, GameCube games on the Wii U Virtual Console is something I've really been hoping for! I never thought to name this one, but, uh, we'll just say this is item #3 on my list anyhow. ;) Melee, Sunshine, Thousand-Year Door, Double Dash, and Luigi's Mansion all come to mind. Like DLC, Virtual Console releases would be a great way to appease Wii U owners until the NX comes out. Speaking...

  • ...of which, why don't we have Mario Kart 64 or the original Smash yet!? C'mon, Nintendo, they'd sell like hotcakes! Back to GameCube games, I see no reason why the Wii U wouldn't be capable of emulating them, plus there's already the whole GC controller adapter and everything, which they could manufacture more units of.

  • @Glurp: As for your other suggestions, Sun/Moon and Zelda U are already a given, so no worries there. Unfortunately, the Big N has confirmed the NX won't be shown off at E3. I've never played EarthBound/Mother myself, but I do think it would be a good move for Nintendo to release the game on the Virtual Console, and I could totally see it happening.

  • 4.) I am a lifelong fan of Crash Bandicoot— or, at least, the amazing Crash games made by Naughty Dog exclusively for PS1, as well as the ones developed by Traveler's Tales when Crash first went third-party— but Activision took everything I loved about the franchise and, in the words of the wise cephalopod Squidward, "crushed it. Crushed it into a million tiny, bite-sized pieces."

  • "So, thanks... Thanks for nothing!" Anyways, a rumor had emerged earlier in the year that a new Crash game was in development when some apparently prominent toy company stated they were manufacturing Crash toys to coincide with the bandicoot's long-awaited comeback. I was a little disheartened...

  • ...when Sony recently stated Activision was still the owner of the Crash Bandicoot franchise. Granted, I don't own a PS4, so if Sony had bought him back, I probably wouldn't get to play any potential new games. If Activision does decide to revive him after years of activity, they'd better go back to his roots and do none of the things they did with Twinsanity or Mind over Mutant.

  • That pretty much does it for my list of hopes from E3 this year. Without the NX being unveiled at this time, I really can't think of anything else I want to see, save for maybe more DLC in the form of Super Mario Maker. New templates for levels would be welcome, such as a desert/beach/snow theme. Lava and water tiles would also be nice. Anyways, I end my list here and bid you adieu.

  • Ugh. I see a couple typos I'd like to point out. *I went back and checked, and yes, I did mistakenly say "Paper Jam" instead of "Color Splash," as I had thought. My bad! *When talking about the revival of the Crash franchise, I meant to say, "after years of inactivity" and not, "after years of activity" And, unrelated, but I have a headache right now. Uuuunngh!

  • When is the E3 broadcast, exactly?

  • For Nintendo, the Zelda stream kicks off Tuesday, June 14, 9 a.m PT / 12 p.m. EST. The Nintendo Treehouse broadcast, where they'll be playing demos of some already announced games, is the following day, but I'm not sure of the time. Then the Pokémon event, I believe, is the day after that, but again, not sure the time. I believe June 14 is the very first day of E3.
