What Advice Can You Give Me In Online Mode?
I've been playing Smash Bros since Melee (I'm only average at fighting games & I only play with friends I know locally) & I was wondering on how to get better in For Glory mode since I barely touched Online. (I have low confidence now after playing online for a day + my gamecube controllers don't like how rough I am with them)

@MRUV The problem is I quit easily (I don't care about that time limit) if I have to deal with too much spamming or those 2 characters that I won't name. I'm easily impatient & angry if I lose too many times or just do many mistakes like not getting off Wario's motorcycle perfectly for example. Mega Man & Captain Falcon were a problem for me online too. (It doesn't help that I have autism)

Hmm I see. I think you have two possibilities: 1- Try to change your way of thinking. Indeed, I also get frustrated sometimes when I play smash but that's useless. I think that you should try to keep calm and analyse why you lost against those kind of strategies or characters. Then, try to find how to solve that (more training to not fail your techniques for example, etc.).

If you stay at the step: "I'm frustrated" you won't be able to move on and progress. 2- Simply not playing smash or play it in a different way. The purpose of a video game is to have fun. So, if you think you won't have fun by playing smash, I think it could be better to find more relaxing games. We already have enough problems IRL, it's useless to add you more problems.

@MRUV Would encouragement from close friends help at all? I'm not sure if they would be down to play online with me. Maybe if online is too much I'll just stick with other fighting games like Soul Calibur with close friends. (I never owned a PS2 as a kid so I recently been using that console a lot when I finally found it in working condition)

Yes, encouragements can help you. Indeed, they can give you the motivation to continue yor training even if your friends don't play online. The PS2 is my favourite console on my side. I really enjoyed Star Wars Battlefront 2, Yu Gi Oh Duelist of the Roses, Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 1 and 2, etc. I never played Soul Calibur though.

@MVUV Isn't there a way to choose/filter a difficulty on what type of player you go against online in For Glory mode or do I have to endure through the pros that know how to do those advanced techniques? I only have 15 or 20 games (can't remember) in my PS2 collection & only 1 game so far for the PS1.

No you can't choose what type of player you'll fight. But if you fight against good players, it'll help you to progress. What you can do is also search opponents who have an average level like you here on Miiverse if you prefer to only fight people at your level. Oh 15 or 20 games that's cool. Have fun with them, the PS2 has really good games.

@MRUV I tried to practice more Smash today but now I really hate Charizard, Jigglypuff & King DeDeDe because of spamming. I was mostly using Pac-man, Bowser Jr. or Duck Hunt as my main choices. (I tried to practice more with Robin & Ness but I can't do it) I did rage quit (I tried to stay calm & take a deep breath multiple times) after losing multiple times against a good Falco player.

@MRUV I also can't believe you can't choose what type of skill level you go against online because that would help me a lot to be honest.

I see, I understand why you don't like spamming. Don't forget that there is players who don't spam with these characters though. Also, you'll learn how to counter spamming with time and training don't worry (skill comes with time, training and losing after all). I also understand why you rage quit. Smash can be frustrating sometimes, but as I said, losing is part of the progress.

Well, always fight people at your level isn't the best actually to progress, so I don't think it's so bad to not be able to choose for you.

@MRUV Pac-man is the only character so far that has helped me a lot online & less rage quits I think. (I don't know if that's a good choice or not for a main choice) I'm only average with Diddy, Bowser Jr, Wario, Robin, Marth, Corrin & Duck Hunt after lots of practice online. I thought I was good at Smash Bros but Online mode & competitive fighting videos destroyed me inside.

@MRUV Quick question would you recommend that I try going to a fighting game tournament or should I steer clear so I don't get embarassed in public? I never visited one or participated in any events including E3 for example.

So, according to you there is a huge gap between you and competitive players ? Don't worry about that, you're not the only one who feels this. However, you shouldn't give up if you really want to improve IMO. That's NORMAL to have an average level when you start to train seriously. We become good with time and a lot of practice. I was also average before but now I think I'm good.

About your main, for me, the best choice to do is to choose the character(s) you like the most even if you loose a lot with them. Why ? Because it'll be easier to play a lot with him, and training too, so you'll progress more easily.

About tournaments, I don't think it's a good idea for the moment. Indeed, you should be confident in your skills but also ready to lose. If you're frustrated now, the results can be bad for you (maybe you'll just get more frustrated). I didn't do a lot of tournaments on my side though.
