Let me just say: the Happy Mask Salesman didn't hint anything about him making an appearance in the new Zelda game. He said "maybe" (or was it "perhaps"?) in the Majora's Mask Miiting because he's not allowed to give certain info. The way it happened made it seem like a 2% chance (yes, like 2% Lon Lon Milk).

    "[...] maybe it wouldn't be a stretch to expect me to pop up in a new Zelda game" and "I've got some new masks too, wouldn't you like to try them [...]". It's obviously non commital, but still you might appear in some form.

    It's like saying that a beloved character might return in a new game in the series, while a new game in the series is currently in production. Aonuma wouldn't want to spoil the surprise IF you were to return, but he would drop a hint. Majora's Mask in 'ALBW' hinted at that remaster. Who expected Tingle in The Wind Waker. He may not use your mechanic the same way, he may riff on it, or not use it.
