What made the Subspace Emissary so great (Not counting the cutscenes)

I'm sorry but I can't see why this mode is so good to some people. Can someone please tell me what made the Subspace Emissary so great? (Minus the cutscenes)

  • It was the First story that any Smash Bros Game had,not counting Adventure or Classic mode from Melee or Smash 4.Plus,the cutscenes are 99% of the Subspace Emissary,so your argument is invalid

  • "Not counting the cutscenes", umm, the cutscenes alone were meant to make the Subspace Emissary "great".

  • So technically the only good thing was the cutscenes?

  • The stages, bosses and versatile difficulty that kinda passed on to Smash 4 3DS's smash run.

  • Exactly. It basically was like watching a crossover movie. The gameplay in between was a Kirby inspired platform 2-D side scroller. Which makes sense because the Smash games were made by the same company that make the Kirby games. Which is why Master Hand is typically the main villain in Smash because Master Hand originates from one (or more) of the Kirby games.

  • the cutscenes were what made the experience great, the boss battles were great and watching them crossover into each others universe was just amazing

  • No, fighting enemies is fun too.

  • The whole adventure, befriending teamates, cool music, amazing storyline, and new antagonist were pure beauty.

  • I mainly used it for challenges and CDs. The beat-em-up gameplay was fun, too. For me, the cutscenes were kinda boring.

  • Nothing, the SE was a big fail a nonesense story an even more nonsensical match of characters in every part of the story I was literally hoping that never happened again and I'm glad it didn't, hopefully the next director of Smash ask for a writer who imagine something really good and not another boring thing like that

  • it really wasn't all that special. IT was "ok" the very first playthrough, but after that you literally have no incentive to ever want to play it again. Smash bros has always been a series who's purpose is the multiplayer. singleplayer shouldn't have any lengthy "storymodes" as it just doesn't make sense. smash4 for both the 3DS and wii U understood this.

  • I liked the way the beat-'em-up gameplay was handled, along with the platforming.

  • The idea of having different characters to chose from was cool. Plus it was a good way to unlock characters.
