Wow, looks like its official. Female Link in new Zelda. Type Nintendo e3 in google. Unnecessary addition. It's not like the series really needed a alternative gender hero. Shame all the fans who begged for this didn't beg sakurai for a new Zelda smash rep... Just doesn't feel right. I just hope for equal treatment, I guess we should have a male option in Metroid from now, as well as Super Maria.

The hero doesn't even have a bloodline in the Adult timeline games of which Wind Waker is the first. Developers have placed Triforce Heroes in the official timeline and have confirmed that the Link there is the same Link from A Link Between Worlds. (Hence why the story required them to be male)

I'm not saying I agree with the logic in his statements (although I have no problem relating to female characters), but it confirms that at least in regards to the Triforce Heroes prophecy, Link is male. So why even bother with all this controversy if you could just create a new and independent character that satisfies both sides of the argument?

Actually at the time of the interview (e3 2015) they hadn't decided where in the timeline TH would go, the director himself admitted it. So this was something planned out before that specifically for the prophecy in TH.

You see, the only real requirement for Link is to be the protagonist of a Zelda game. (Something to this affect has also been stated in an interview with Aonuma though I can't remember where) Either the female character would in effect be Link (who remember is not a set character) or the game would be a spinoff.

And yeah Link doesn't have a direct bloodline connection in the adult timeline. But the main connection between the Link's is their spirit, not their blood. We're just going to have to agree to disagree here. I respect your opinion, and I see where you're coming from, but I simply don't think we can jump to any conclusions about how the Hero's spirit works.

That's because there aren't any. You are trying to argue based on non-existing information rather than the information that does exist. Any argument which restricts itself to the Hero's spirit and begins with "there's nothing which says a female can become Link" must reconcile with the fact that there's nothing which says a male can become Link either. And yet they have anyways, and so we can con

That's sort of my point friend. We can't tell for sure one way or another. I'm not a big fan of the idea of a female Link, but I never said it wasn't possible if Nintendo wanted to do it. I'd just prefer a new female character. It was fun talking with you, I'm pretty much out of posts now though. See ya around!

Actually, Link is a set character. If you have been to any of the Symphony of the Goddesses concert and heard Miyamoto's message, he says he wanted to create a world where a young boy would grow up overcoming challenges etc. and for the player to feel as if they were growing with him. In this respect, Link is the character (the boy) created by Miyamoto himself for you to grow up with!

Oi, Link. You see, we know there are multiple 'Heroes of Legend' and multiple Triforces (ALBW). We know that Link's personality changes from game to game. And we know that within the same universe (i.e. place and time) multiple Links/Heros can exist ([Hero's Shade from] TP, Four Swords, TH). We also know that when multiple heros are gathered, only the one that the player controls is recognized as

We further know that the requirements for the 'Triforce Hero' differ from region to region (TH). Indeed, many Links have never had the Triforce nor displayed any connection to the Hero's Spirit (MC, MM,ST). The many varied appearances of Link over the years each with th

eir own set of unusual accompanying circumstances would seem to suggest that their are no limiting factors on what Link can or cannot be. The ways, if any, in which Link's character is set are far and few between and tend to be cosmetic at best. They also all are non-gendered.

So what you are trying to say is that Miyamoto just flipped a coin when he created the character of Link. I'm afraid it clearly doesn't work like that, otherwise the whole gender swap thing would have been done much earlier on. Just because there have been multiple instances of the hero doesn't immediately allow for him to be female. If anything, it solidifies his gender as they have all been male

I'd just like to point out that in the end debating about it won't change anything, Nintendo will make their decision if they haven't already. We'll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, let's just appreciate the fact that everyone thinks differently and the world is a more interesting place because of it.

I have no idea where you got coin flip from. Now, when there are multiple distinct instances of the hero whose characteristics are not dependent on those of the heroes before them, then the characteristics of future instances of the hero wouldn't be dependent on those of previous heroes either.

Hoy, Vladislak. That depends on what you want to change. For the video games Nintendo obviously can and will do whatever they want. For us in the community, it may be useful if when a line of heroes capable of including females starts to include females that we realize the possibility for this ahead of time. Keeps us from falling into poor assumptions about why the changes might have occurred.

I don't see how seeing a possibility like this ahead of time would affect my opinion on the matter though, so I'm not too worried about it. Que sera, sera (what will be, will be).
