The theory: When Arceus first created the universe, it created Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina to maintain it, and Mew to lead to new life forms. But none of these new generations will be able to actually accomplish anything without some basic qualities. To answer this, it created an Egg, and from that Egg came the Beings of Knowledge, Emotion, and Willpower. (cont.)

@Naeshaun: It's a bit revised. These 'Beings' weren't exactly Pokémon, but at the same time they weren't exactly not, either. For thousands of years, they gave creatures of all kinds the ability to think for themselves, feel the joy, sorrow, and everything in between of their experiences, and the motivation to get up and do things. Believing that the Beings controlled every aspect of their lives in one way or another, some humans deemed them as too powerful. This group set out to attempt to kill them, while others knew that nothing could exist without them. Eventually the two sides compromised: they would split each Being into two entities. (cont.)

One would embody the legendary powers needed for others to exist, and not much else. The other would contain all of their actual strength, and would be banished to another dimension. The Being of Willpower, both skeptical and fearful of the humans' threat, challenged them head-on. It didn't go so well for him. Witnessing their brother's fall, the other two triplets hid. (cont.)

The Being of Emotion was found and captured four years later, and suffered the same fate as her sibling, and the Being of Knowledge only lasted another four years before he too was forced apart. That day, the humans rewrote their history books, replacing the original Beings' spots with the new creations' names: Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf. (cont.)

In the other dimension, the stronger products would grow, mature, and start new lives. They would ultimately all befriend each other, unaware of their true pasts, and defend their new home from the evil Dr. Eggman under the names of Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles Prower AKA Tails, and Amy Rose.
