It's possible to defeat Lana, before she makes copies of herself, to escape. Just defeat her while she's in the Fairy Fountain.

The Magic Circle she uses to create duplicates of herself, is located OUTSIDE the Fairy Fountain. If she can't get outside, she won't be able to make copies of herself, making this level much easier!
