Today is the 20th anniversary of the N64 being released in Japan. Hard to believe it's been that long, makes me feel old! Fantastic console though, have some real fond memories particularly of OoT (my all time favourite game) and playing Mario 64 at launch. Great multiplayer too with Mario Kart 64, Smash Bros and Goldeneye.

  • I have a soft spot for the N64 as well, Super Mario 64 was my first video game, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are some of the best games ever made, and it has tons more. It's a shame I wasn't around during it's era.

  • Always have a hard time picking between this, SNES and Gamecube for my favourite Nintendo console. Seeing the jump to 3D of some of their classic series was really cool. The only thing missing was Metroid. Rare's output was awesome too, fantastic hit rate.

  • I started playing video games with my brother's N64, w/ Super Smash Bros. and Ocarina of Time.

  • That's a great generation to get into gaming Ray, so many innovations brought in that are kind of taken for granted these days! I might actually have a playthrough of OoT to celebrate the anniversary.

  • Will always be my fave console for SM64, OOT and all the Rare goodness!

  • I think half of my collection almost was Rare, they had a spectacular run on that console. Banjo Kazooie/Tooie, Goldeneye, Killer Instinct Gold, Blast Corps, Perfect Dark, Conker...even played Jet Force Gemini but just rented that. N64 controller was one of the most bizarre things Nintendo ever did though! haha

  • Too right, I had all those Rare games. Banjo Kazooie and Goldeneye were my favourites. Honestly rate BK above SM64..just. The controller, ha ha trying to show relatives or non gaming friends the correct way of holding it!!

  • Me too, I rate Banjo Kazooie higher than Mario 64 which I'm sure is an unpopular opinion on here! Had more character to it and that Rare trademark quirky sense of humour. It's why I'm excited for Yooka Laylee. Ha, yes holding the trident correctly depended on the game. Very different from what came before it, analog stick was a great invention though and the rumble pack.

  • Oot is my fav as well. I never get tired of replaying that one. I was so hyped when the 3DS remake came out I literally drove through a tornado at midnight to get my copy.

  • Blimey, that's some dedication dude. Fair play. The remaster was the fourth version of the game I'd bought so was happy to wait for delivery that time. Was cool though, came with a reversible cover, double-sided poster and a Hylian keyring.
