Their age can be indicated by the number of stripes on their tail, 1 stripe is equal to 5 human years. When developing new stripes, they slowly fade into place on the tail over the years. The average lifespan is 20, or 100 in human years. They begin to go blind at 15. Depending on how fast they mature, they can become an adult anywhere from 4-6 years old.

As they grow older, they begin to produce thicker, stickier blood to prepare for their decomposing.... Which occurs while they're still alive. They decompose like this do to a harsh environment, but luckily for them their blood will keep them together. It works basically as very strong glue.

Sometimes, if the blood isn't strong enough, their heads can fall off. They can survive only a few hours without a head. Now for the mutations. A dangerous parasite can form in the fluff in their tail as young as 3. The parasite is very greedy, and the host is made to do everything for them. It controls their mind, and sadly this isn't too uncommon. A second head or tail isn't genetic either-

The head or extra tail can majorly effect them. It can slow them down a lot, and if it's bad enough it may take their life. By far, the worst mutation is where a Soon before adulthood starts producing thick blood. Their bodies aren't prepared yet for it, leading their tails to fall off and not grow back like usual. The same thing happens to the adult, but since they can handle it it doesn't kill..

Genetic things: Depending on their area, they may develop fins on their backs. usually just 1, but sometimes even 2. They have different tongue lengths depending on are also. Something really uncommon is when no stripes appear on the tail... Or when they have 3 sets of legs. The middle set is taller, making their back lean upwards.

Now for culture- The rulers of the land are all genetic, based on if their ears bend down or not. Royal Soons put flowers in their manes to show an extra sign of a high status. Soons come in all colors, but they are never just completely blank. There's an old myth that one existed, but was considered bad luck and killed. Royals will dye the space inbetween their tail stripes to orange-

To prove leadership, but to do this it must be earned. Any average Soon may dye their mane color if they like, though. Just not orange... For it is the royal color. The Soons are currently a closed species, so you're not aloud to make your own oc of one yet. I will make them open once they are finalized in design and all. Go ahead and judge the entire species now, so I may further improve them.

Woah... you must have put a lot of thought into this, because it really paid off! I love the mutations part, and I can't wait for it to be an open species! And also, about the slime that comes out of their bodies, can it hurt anything, and if it can, is it used as sort of a weapon?

Added info: Since soons are endangered, there aren't many kingdoms... There's only one royal per kingdom, which means not a bunch of royals. If a royal gets any sort of mutation, they are rejected and outcast by their kingdom. Before adulthood, a Soon may take interest in other species and learn to walk on 2 legs-

but later on do not have this ability because they can't support their necks like that anymore. This is also why it's important they can grow back their tails, because it helps support them. Once cell regeneration stops in a Soon's lifetime, they become very clumsy. This is also what makes the early thick blood production so dangerous for a young Soon, because it tricks their body to start-

decomposing at a younger age. (sadly, this is a common death for young) Soons don't have many predators where they live, but that's only because they were killed off. The Soons live on a dying planet, and are among the most endangered species there. Their fur is a large reason as to why they live on.

At some areas, their fur is so thick anything trying to bite into it would just be biting fur. Around the face, the fur is lighter in color and not so thick. The neck is very thick with fur, because it's more important to protect. The back and hind legs may be equally fluffy.

I don't know why you thought these weren't an original species. I've never seen anything like them (Which is good). Now I really want one!

@Muffin 1. I don't take drawing request and 2. They're a closed species for now... So, no, sorry. @TheTRUEgge IDK, you never know when a sudden group of people will start screeching in the comments section about how unoriginal something is. I personally know nothing like a Soon, but then again, I don't know EVERY single original species. (it's hard to know when ideas have been used or not)
