How to beat Classic 9.0?

Seriously, HOW? The highest intensity I've beaten it on is 6.5, even though I've come really close on intensities 7.0 and up. I always get destroyed by Master Edges, though I can easily clear Giant, Beast, Shadow, and Core. (No word on Fortress.) The non-boss battles are pretty easy, but the boss battle is what gets me. How do I clear it?

  • I'd customize your main to have improved air attacks as well as extra attack and defense, so you can survive longer and deal more damage. That way, you can deal with each phase faster.

  • My advice is to try and learn how to dodge the boss's attacks and to play the fight as safe as possible.

  • For many players, customized characters are a must in order to clear the higher Intensities. Take a look at some of the moves and items you have available, and see if you can build a character that suits your playstyle. For example, the first time I cleared the Fortress, I used a Link build that leaned heavily on the standard boomerang (Side Special 2), and an Auto-Heal Protection Badge.

  • I don't really use customs all that much. The only one I ever use is probably Aether Drive (goes sideways) and I don't have Lifesteal or Vampire Badges, so the badges don't offer much of an advantage. My Autoheal Badge only heals 2%. Some bosses are downright unpredictable (COUGH MASTER EDGES), so it's hard to learn their moves.

  • I dont need custom abilities, I've beaten 9.0 with over 10 characters with no custom, My beat score was with Cloud. Just keep practicing on lower difficulties like you said to understand the bosses movements then when ready challenge 9.0 and hope for the best :)

  • One of the nice things about Master Edges is that it's a lower Intensity form. If that's the one that's repeatedly thrashing you, practice on one of those lower Intensities, say 5.1, until you have a good handle on its attacks. They'll be less powerful, and the "tells" which indicate what attack is coming, will be lengthier and more obvious.

  • Another neat trick with Edges, too, is that its spherical projectiles can be reflected, absorbed, etc. Characters like Ness and Lucas can heal from them, and Mr. Game & Watch can use them to charge Oil Panic. Try using it's own attacks against it!

  • I beat it as Zelda without customs.

  • @Tripehound Sounds like a good idea! However, I haven't been doing well with lower intensities (well, the ones with Master Core, so like 5-6). But, I haven't been using my mains; I've been using characters that I never use just to try to clear challenges. I'll try doing that (after I grind All-Star for coins)

  • Also, do counters work against bosses? I use a lot of characters with counter moves, so just wondering.

  • Counters work great on Master Core! Most of Master Beast's attacks can be countered and so can Master Edge's last slash of the 5-slash combo. Don't try that on Edge's "spin cycle" slash, though.

  • Yes it does I used a counter against the sword's and killed it

  • Technically yes, but given the position of the hitboxes on some of the Master Forms, the length of time they can last, and the grand gestures and movements they make, landing one without setting yourself up for a counter-assault can be difficult. Master Forms don't flinch when hit, so if you connect with a counter, say during Master Edges "Fury Swipes," it'll keep going, and cut you to ribbons.
