    Because of the aftermath of when Phillips got into Hyrule and Octorocs ran rampant because of it, but thankfully the King's "Boy", Link, was able to contain them. That was until some weird mirror and wand stuff happened and the octorocs turned into those octopus-like monsters that you see in the trailer. Then Link grew a ponytail after being inspired by Snake...

    it was revealed that link in breath of the wild is a link from a prior zelda game. link was in cryostasis in the shrine of reserrection for 100 years. ganon at this point has already returned and brought destruction upon a good portion of hyrule

    My theroy is that the Hylians created robots or even AI, but Gannondorf corupted it and made it turn on them, that is why the Gardians are called Gardians. there was an intence war that brought Hyrule to its knees and when Zelda and Link saw that it was lost they decided to put Link under the "ice" and a hundred years later maybe just maybe there would be a sign of hope to, take back Hyrule.
