    My theory is that the wolf TP Link turns into is a member of a species of wolf that can sense evil, so they leave Hyrule whenever Ganon or another villan appears. But BotW Link befriended one, so it stayed. And the chain is just an easter egg. My theory a bit crazy, but at least it explains it.
