I don't care what anyone says, the fact that the Resistance and the First Order are using SLIGHTLY modified X-Wings and TIE Fighters 30 years after the Galactic Civil War bugs me. Let me put it to you this way: Do you still see people in the Air Force flying around in Sopwith Camels? No. Because they're old and vastly inferior to what we have now.

  • They are technically different models, not slightly modified old ones.

  • Maybe. Changes are visible in the new X-Wings, and the Special Forces TIE Fighters now have hyperspace capabilities, but the basic TIEs seem more or less the same, with a new coat of paint. And the X-Wings don't seem to have any real difference aside from the longer nose and split engines. Maybe the cross-section book reveals more real changes, though.

  • even if they are slightly different models there should be more things that were either added on or a complete overall design. It bugs me too. if you look at our society, Alot has changed in 30 years. with planes, choppers, drones and cars. but here its like 3 days past return of the jedi technology wise of course lol

  • I agree even in episode 3 REVENGE OF THE SITH the Jedi Interceptors hardly change into Tie Fighters in that span between the Republic and the Empire.

  • Keep in mind though that in ANH, at the beginning of the rebellion, they are using Y-Wings, which even then were ridiculously old because it was all they could scrounge up. The X-wings at the time were all but brand new because the company that made them defected to the rebellion. So to see them 30 years later isn't that huge of a stretch. My only question is why was it ONLY X-wings. /nerdrant

It kind of bothers me, too. But it's more than likely that they have changed a lot on the interior of their craft rather than the exterior.

Another explanation would be that it's the result of military surplus on both sides from the Galactic Civil War.
