Pro tip: if there is a GS user in your group, let them detonate bombs on a sleeping monster. A lvl 3 charge does more damage than a lbb+ and will get the bonus while setting off the bombs..

    Yep. GS lvl 3 charge imo is best for waking up monsters period since not only does the barrels explosions damage them but a lvl 3 charge from gs on a sleeping monster is huge. Even more so with critical draw.

    The nice thing is you can use sleep chopping to take off tails really quickly

    It really depends where you're hitting. A hitzone like Rathian's head may be better for the greatsword to hit first, but for... say, the Gold Rathian's head, you'd want to just detonate the bomb on it. The GS won't do nearly as much damage as a group of bombs would. This goes for pretty much all annoying parts to break. The bombs ignore defense. a GS on a defensive spot won't do well.
