Go online and Google "Monster Hunter Wiki". Monster Hunter is a complicated game. Wikis help a lot. Every weapon class is good. Start with whatever feels good and learn it well, but be sure to try them All from time to time to get the full experience.

Tips for getting started: 1.take your time. You don't have to speed through the game. Hunt a monster several times, try different weapons, and figure out what works best for you.

2. Active armor skills (anything 10+) > all. If have to choose between active skills and defense, go for skills. If you learn a monsters moves well enough you wont get hit much. At least not enough to warrant sacrificing skills.

3. Max out your farm as quickly as you can. Not only is it a huge cash cow, it produces a large percentage of the combination supplies you need to make potions and ammo for gunning.

4. This is the most important one.ASK QUESTIONS!!! Don't be afraid to ask questions even if it seems stupid. You can always get questions answered here and anyone who criticizes you for asking isn't worth the time it takes to reply.
