    he's a toy...and in case you didn't know: he saved nintendo from the video game crash in 1985.....or 1896.....i don't know but he saved nintendo!

    basically R.O.B is controled by the average TV of the 1980's due to light displayed at spilt second moments which would happen due to interacting with P1'S controler. R.O.B has light related things in what appears to be eyes. then the robot would mess around with tops if the game was gyromite or circles if the game was stack up. in gyromite R.O.B had P2'S controler, in stack up you could cheat.
