So guys I have a question. My brother is just starting monster hunter and he really wants to use a bow.I believe that it would make his first experiences with mh better if he did not have to worry about ammo and coatings and just killed things with me(I've personaly never used a bow and we would have to figure everything out). What do you guys think about the bow as a starter weapon?

Depending on how your brother plays other games he might be alright, in MH Tri, I started with a Med. Bowgun and didn't have any trouble with the ammo, plus they can hold thier own in a fight

  • I'm pretty sure that the bow doesn't have ammo, but I honestly wouldn't suggest it because it is weaker than most other weapons.

The Bow uses coatings and can be upgraded like all other weapons to do some MASSIVE DAMAGE

  • dont use bow, risk closer range attacks over weaker long range attacks. bows can be expensive, confusing, and weak in battle. plus, the armor is way weaker. do yourself a favor and get a great sword or switch axe

  • Seeing as the gunner weapons are more complicated, making them harder to optimize, I wouldn't recommend them to a beginner.

  • 1. Ammo = Stamina As long as he has stamina he has ammo. 2. Coatings override the existing element. Only use them to inflict status on a monster and then remove them (essentially useless).

  • Let him use what he wants. The great thing about Monster Hunter is it's always easy to go from one weapon to another if you want, and that some people are really good with certain weapons. I for example loathe hunting horn and SnS but I've seen people amazing with them. If he wants to bow, let him, he can figure it out for sure and it might just be his best weapon.

  • I dont want him to take like 50 minutes to kill a monster though. If he gets bored because he doesnt do much damage he might quit. Do you think that might be a problem?

  • The Bow Is A Great Weapon. For Begginers Though, I Would Say DualBlades/LongSword. But Bows Are Fairly Easy To Learn With A Instructor And A Team, At least From My Experience.

I'd say let him use the bow if he wants. I tried the bow for 1 quest, thinking it would be complicated, but I haven't stopped using it since. It's a different playstyle, but he'll have just as much fun shooting as he would slicing. It really is a great weapon if you know the ins and outs.
