As someone that has played and owned every Mario Party game (except this game and the first one), can someone explain why people hate this one (and maybe MP5 onwards with few exceptions)?

It's a single player-focused Mario Party. Why do you think people hate it?

Yeah Why! I'm okay with a single player focused Mario Party! As for five & onwards DK isn't playable! Seriously don't exactly understand why Mario Party 8 & 9 get so much hate!

@Anthony That's how I mostly played Mario Party (except when I played 2-4). My sister stopped playing games as much as I did once Mario Party 5 came out. For the most part, I just play the story mode which was fine for me up until 8. I hated the Boo board in that game...

8 is bad for multiple reasons. The art style is not good. They went for a realistic look and it doesn't look good. The boards are half-baked. They're much shorter compared to older boards. (For the most part) They abandon the traditional rules for boards that just aren't good. The island board takes long to get a star and the mansion board is bad on so many levels. Poorly done motion controls.

The minigames aren't awful, their just not creative minigames,But their still fun to play. The reason why people criticise this game is because it didn't follow the original formula.None the less the story mode is quite creative and nowhere near as bad as people say it is. It's actually one of the best single player story modes in mario party.

Also The game had multiplayer And came with a physical board with pieces. The games after advanced followed the original formula, but their were too many of them, making the original formula very stale.

I love 8! I find the realistic artsyle more interesting than that of the previous games! Koopa Kid is nowhere to be found (just a sidenote but I'm on a roll here)I prefer smaller boards because that means less strees on the camera. The Solo mode is interesting with a cool plot twist. i love the motion controls they make it less repetitive than any of the previous. I love Ballyhoo & Bigtop.

MP5 is awesome!! the items having the ability to not only be used on yourself, but on the board too is awesome! however, i didn't like 8 or 9, because 8 tried waaaay too hard to implement motion controls, to the point where you win 50% of the minigames by shaking, and 9 had fun minigames, and i can appreciate the thought with the car.... but that car just isn't fun to use :/

MP Advance was awful. I got it when I was in 5th or 6th grade and it was such a disappointment. It had a poor multiplayer component, a decent-ish single player campaign, and uninspired mini-games. I could tolerate all that, but by far the worst thing about it is the lack or replay value. Once you beat the game, there's NOTHING left to do. I remember playing this for about a week then ignoring it.

In regards to the other games, I owned 2, Advance, and 4-7. 2 and 4 were amazing, 5 was...meh, 6 was cool, and 7 I didn't play much because my sister didn't visit that much by then (she's 8 years older than me) so it kinda collected dust after only a few uses and I don't have much of an opinion on it. Never played the Wii ones, but 10 is on my radar if it has online support.

Mario Party 5 was amazing. I don't see what was the problem with it. Plus it was my first Mario Party.

MP5 wasn't bad imo, it was just forgettable. The single-player mode wasn't very fun since all you did was try to catch up to the Koopa Kids and beat them in duels. Most of the mini-games just felt average too, and I honestly don't even recall a single board from that game. It lacked the novelty of being the 1st entry on GC and it lacked a clear gimmick to make it unique like MP6's Day/Night thing.

Mario Party 1-4 & DS are good but Mario Party 5-current & advance are not good...

The reason so many peaple hate this game is because it is only single player. I'm talking about ''no cpu'' single player. Mario party 5 is disliked because there is so much luck, rather than skill required to win the party.
