    It depends on why you visit. My reasons are to gather information on minor public works, paths, flowers, shrubs, room designs, &c. For this, the Dream Suite lets me examine a copy of every networked village in the world. Should I want to buy luxury goods, HH Showcase lets me examine beautiful homes & buy the rare items on display. Club Tortimer offers an international chat room with avatars!

    It's probably that Nintendo doesn't want the liability of your using their sevices for initial contact. (Email has resulted in tragedies.) Nintendo probably expects friends to communicate by email, message chat, etc: some service other than Nintendo's. There, private exchanges of information can take place. It is confusing.

    It is ironic. But Miiverse is best for asking quick questions that pop up while playing a game. Children's use of facebook, email, videochat is highly restricted by parents. Playing a networked game machine should be safer. With the ability for unmonitored conversation, it wouldn't be. It is sad, but responsible.
