    Er...there's five. Six if you could Ivysaur and Squirtle as separate characters. (Snake, Ice Climbers, Pokemon Trainer's Ivysaur and Squirtle, Lucas, and Wolf.)

    But Snake, Lucas and Wolf might be DLC character. The only reason the Ice Climbers aren't in the game is because the 3DS's limits and Nintenedo didn't want to have exclusive fighters for the Wii U release. There are two reasons I can think of for the Pokemon Trainer not being in. The first being the same with the Ice Climbers, and two, I don't think the 3DS can allow you to switch fighters...
