    That's because you only can use 3DS as controller in SSB4WiiU. SSB43DS and SSB4WiiU cannot play together.

    awww...thats lame. i think we should be able to fight people online wii u to 3ds, or vice versa. more people would play online mostlikely.

    The problem is, 90% of the WiiU stages are not in the 3DS version, and vice versa. That's why those two games cannot play together. (Not to mention, that someone with a Gamecube or ProController allways have the better control option than the one with the 3DS)
