I already don't like the Fire Lady. She doesn't want to interfere with Earth Kingdom issues? Please, world leaders are supposed to lead the world. Not just their own backyards. At least Tenzin could backup his beliefs on non-aggressive behaviors of airbenders.

  • Her father is Zuko. Her nation, probably thinks she can do no wrong. And the fire nation is one of the most industrialized nation. Give them a week with Carol and they'll have mega-words lol

  • Izumi doesn't want to interfere because she doesn't want her nation to get into another war.

    Yeahs3
  • Well her title should be national leader, not WORLD leader.

  • Well think about it. Everyone knows about the Fire Nation and how they launched a war on the whole world that caused a lot of devastation and sorrow. The Fire Lady knows that getting involved with Earth Kingdom affairs again is a risky move. And she DID agree to help a little.

    Yeahs2
  • Th Fire Lord started the war. And all she agreed to was to send some troops to defend republic city

  • It's hard to tell what's right or wrong in a matter of ruling and protecting a country, because everyone has different views. I think the Fire Lady has a point. If she sent her soldiers to the Earth Kingdom, not only would her troops be upset because they're fighting for a cause they don't believe in, but a lot of people would see it as another attempt at world domination.

    Yeahs3
  • (And it was her great-great grandfather who started the war.)

    Yeahs1
  • Sozin or Azulon?

    Yeahs1

  • Sozin. (She is Zuko's daughter, which makes Sozin her great-great grandfather.)

    Yeahs1
  • I couldn't remember the exact order of Fire lords Sozin ➡ Azulon ➡ Ozai ➡ Zuko ➡ Izumi (And what's up with all the "z's"?

    Yeahs3

  • I understand what you are saying but I don't think it would be looked at as domination if it's fire nation troops, republic city troops, and probably water tribe troops all fighting on the same side

    Yeahs1

  • Well still, anything could happen. Besides, maybe she doesn't feel like the Fire Nation should get involved in Earth Kingdom affairs. Her only duty is to the Fire Nation and the United Republic of Nations, and she shouldn't have to sacrifice her soldiers for the Earth Kingdom.

    Yeahs3
  • And it's that mentality that leads to the foreign policy of isolationism, which then leads to nationalism, which got the fire nation to where it was during 100 Year War.

  • Okay, maybe you have a point. But what I'm saying is, should she really have to help out with every Earth Kingdom affair that comes up? (Especially since Kuvira hasn't actually declared war or anything yet.) It seems like everyone's just panicking because Suyin and Co. (and Zaofu) were captured and they feel like they need to do something about it. Actually, I've just solved this whole mystery...

    Yeahs3
  • ...The problem here isn't politics or reasoning, it's just a result of bad writing and a story that doesn't flow. I mean, I know Kuvira is supposed to be the villain here and that she's an evil dictator, but the show is doing a terrible job of portraying that. They really just write in Izumi as being completely unhelpful so that they don't have to deal with any conflict between the Earth Kingdom..

    Yeahs3
  • ...and the Fire Nation again. And besides, Avatar has really taken a different turn with Kuvira here. They do such a terrible job of portraying her as a villain that some people can't even figure out that she's supposed to be the villain! (They think that the villain in this season is that other Korra.) But you have to cut them some slack. It would probably take twice the number of episodes that

    Yeahs2
  • have already aired to show how truly evil Kuvira is. So far, the only reason someone is suggesting Kuvira be stopped is that she captured Zaofu. Remember, they didn't even know about the spirit weapon or anything until Bolin and Varrick told them. So in the end, Izumi's choice is probably just something the writers threw in so they could make Korra feel better about herself. Sorry if my argument

    Yeahs2
  • sounds all out of order. It's just something I made up on the spot.

    Yeahs3
  • But we've been going at this all wrong! The question isn't why Izumi doesn't want to help, it's why the writers made her choose that! And it's kind of obvious. It's because this story isn't about Izumi. Or Tenzin. Or Wu. Or Desna and Eska. Or Raikou (However you spell it). Or the Beifongs. It's about Korra. And the only peaceful way this can end is with the Avatar. Not an army, not a war. Korra.
