The Trackless Forest is one of the Mirage Spots that can be found while soaring on Latios or Latias.

you get lugia or ho oh by going to sea mauvill, the sunken ship, and talk to the scientist dude on the deck. then you go inside, use surf, then dive. use the stairs to tne lowest floor, go to the very bottom of the stsirs and swim around a bit to the right until it says you found the scanner thing.

then you tell the scientist, then bring the scanner to captain stern in slateport. he gives you a bell. go back to sea mauville. if you have omega ruby, ho oh should be like on top the ship somewhere. if sapphire, its under water where you found the scanner
