    Rathalos is a good choice and will easily carry you well into high rank.

    If you are low rank, yes the Rathalos armor is good. Once you get to high rank, I'd try getting Barioth U armor. If I remember correctly, it gives good skills and has heat cancel so you don't need to bring cold drinks. G rank, Rathalos Z, Agnaktor X, basically anything with fire resistance since the only main monsters in the volcano are fire element.

    for low, ludroth is VERY easy to get, has heat cancel and water atk+ (also stamina). unfortunately, it has fire weakness, but if you're willing to take the risk (unless you cance add fire res with decos/charm) it is effective enough.
