    Somewhat. MOTHER is the series of Mother games. EarthBound is Mother 2, but its the only game to be released outside of Japan. So to us, EarthBound and Mother might as well be the same, unless you've got your hands on a copy of Mother 1 or 3, or an unofficial translation.

    Mother 1/EarthBound Zero and EarthBound/Mother 2 are totally different games. for instance, instead of Ness, Paula, Jeff, and Poo the main characters are Ninten, Ana, Loid, and Teddy That's just one of the many differences between the two games
