How much do you wanna bet that Volcarona was originally meant to be the first Bug-type Legendary, and that at the last minute they scrapped that idea and threw in Genesect instead? I mean, if a Pokémon who is said to be able to replace the SUN doesn't sound Legendary, then I don't know what does!

  • Yeah, no, Espeon is mentioned to be the “sun pokemon” on the pokedex, but I don't know what Game freak means by that. Oh, but I totally agree with you. Also, if raised well, Volcarona is so OP. The good way of course.

  • Espeon is the Sun Pokémon because it's active during the daytime, usually emits positive feelings, and is the day to Umbreon's night. That's all I got, but I think it's pretty cool that Espeon has a connection to the sun. But I really do think Volcarona was meant to be a Legendary -- I mean, Team Plasma was searching specifically for that Pokémon in the Relic Castle, and when you find it, it's

  • waiting for you in a rather important-looking room. When the battle commences, the thing is level 70, like a lot of other major Legendaries that you encounter (such as frikkin' Kyurem and even Rayquaza, for instance). It has a signature move that's quite powerful, has unique typing (if you exclude Larvesta), and is based on a solar deity. A DEITY! Also, Volcarona's base stat total is 550,

  • You make a fantastic point. Maybe they didn't want Volcarona to be legendary because Larvesta evolves into it? But then again, they could've just made Larvesta on it's own and made the relationship between Larvesta and Volcarona like Carbink and Diancie. Still, pretty neat idea. It should happen.

  • Oh yeah, didn't even think about Carbink and Diancie! Makes you wonder, right? But honestly, I'm glad Volcarona isn't a Legendary, since if it were one people would probably get angry at you for using it in battle and scream, "Heeeeeeeey, NO UBERRRRRS!!!!11!!1" Lol, but Volcarona is still and will always be my favorite Bug-type.

  • Mm-hmm. The only thing bad about Volcarona is how much it changes after evolution. As a Larvesta it's a physical attacker, but when it evolves, all those good physical moves would be useless. ... It's not like Larvesta learns any good ones though, and it stays like that until level 50+

  • Doesn't really matter, since Volcarona is an awesome special attacker, and if you have a moveset like Fiery Dance, Bug Buzz and Roost/Substitute you'll be sweeping your opponent's team in no time. I cannot express how rewarding it is to finally get Larvesta to lv. 59. :)

  • OH MY GOD I almost forgot to mention Quiver Dance. A Volcarona with 3 Quiver Dances up is RIDICULOUSLY good.

  • Yep, that's my Volcarona's moveset you've got there. All I do is use Quiver Dance for only about 2 turns and then sweep the opponent's team with Heat Wave and Bug Buzz.

  • Yep, it's just so much fun. Oh, and Volcarona just got banned from UU again, lol.

  • What? Dammit! I had no idea... Uh, looks like I'll need to find another good sweeper as good as Volcarona. Do you think that Chandelure or Scizor is good enough?

  • Yeah, Chandelure and Scizor are great. Chandelure has amazing Sp. Atk, and Scizor has great Attack and priority in the form of Bullet Punch. :]
