My limited review of MH3U: I don't normally review but this game seems different enough to interest my writing skills (or lack there of). I First heard of MH on PS2 where I immediately felt an attraction. I didn't act on my instinct until it came to Wii U. I really had no idea what I was getting into and the demo/reviews didn't help AT ALL!

Gameplay is very different from other long games. You don't level up by training with a weapon type. You increase your power and defense by getting materials to forge stronger weapons and armor. This is nice because if you are invested in one type you can switch to another when you feel like gathering the necessary items. I was worried I was stuck with my weapon choice but I wasn't.

There is too much to get into but I'll try. Every enemy has it's own uniqueness. Given the title you can guess that this is where the game shines the most. These monsters are BADASS! The Bunny in the demo made no sense to me until I played many hours. I think to point was to show that you can make weapons and armor from a giant bunny! Veteran players surely understood and noobs were like WTH.

Trust me, if you never made many armors/weapons then you could not fathom how cool of a set could be made from a giant killer winter bunny!

I gotta hurry up cause I'm hungry. Pacing is slow and farming materials takes longer than it should. But it's this pace that makes everything so rewarding. When everything finally falls into place, it's great. There's a lot of strategy and feeling of achievement thoroughly earned.

Graphics were very impressive. I read that it was a bland affair of last generation. But this isn't true imo. The textures are highly detailed. Like really high! Really REALLY high. It's gorgeous. The colors are very vivid and bright. The worlds and landscapes are a treat too. Land is expansive and attention to detail is everywhere. I love the varying locations. It's a unique experience.

I've never played a game that makes you grind for what you want until this. But I really didn't grind in the beginning. Only when I realized I wanted an armor set from a particular bird, did I set off to rinse and repeat. But then I learned even more nuances about MH. Depending on where you attack the creature, you can carve part you wouldn't normally carve, and break parts of him/her too.

Getting all the things you need is a lot like the Mcdonald's Monopoly game. They give you enough to get your hopes going that you can have the whole set, then make you work for, nay EARN, that last piece. By earn I mean think, strategize and use cunning, like a hunter. Then, when your beautiful armor and weapon is complete, you feel how authentic this game is.

Lots of talent was poured into this game in the most unlikely of areas. From the onset, it's invisible. But it's there. Take it from me.. it's there.

Thanksfor the review. In my mind, it's never too late to get into a game. Will give this a go after I work down my back log!

@Krampus that's exactly how I felt. I bought it in full doubt. And I can't even fully recommend it to you either. It's such a long, slow, and uphill type of game that time might be better enjoyed playing other titles. It takes so much mental investment and playtime.

Monster Hunter is a type of game that it doesn't win anyone on the first impression. The demo is bad in my opinion, it throws people away from the game, instead of luring them in. It should have a little more content, not just hunting 2 monsters! It's a game where you need to better your skills little by little. Once you do it, you'll love the game and can't stay away from it. ;)

Im a very seasoned gamer (gaming for 30 years) and i got Monster Hunter free with the MK8 promotion. I tried it for about 9-10 hours, but even i found it to be quite overwhelming, i dont feel i could invest the time into a game that requires total devotion. I may try it again when my gaming backlog reduces, but with all the great games coming in 2015, it may be a while.

@pedro that's what i found. I just killed a flounder/catfish/spikey blowfish with the dangley headlight on my 1st try. Each monster and moment of battle, is a surprise. A happy one, when up to snuff!

@clint I stopped here and there too, and introduced myself little by little. Being a busy family guy makes difficult to initiate yourself into mh.. no doubt about that. I know you know. It does pay off at a price!

I'm not sure if I should get this game (MH3 or MH4). My friends told me it gets very boring, and I'm not sure if I would like it. Is the demo similar to the game?

Oh and feel free to ask any questions about the New 3DS, as I have one. I saw your comments on Dougs post.
