I play this game 90% of the time on the WiiU gamepad. Today I was playing on the TV, enjoying the HD graphics when I decided to give the 16 bit graphics a go. Even though I played many games growing up during that era, there is no way I would choose to play the game this way. I turned the HD back on within 5 minutes. Thank goodness graphics have improved over the years!

  • This makes me wonder how you'd feel about a 16 bit game you've been playing all your life getting an HD update...Would you still prefer the HD version, or would the change be too jarring?

  • I'm thinking that I'll prefer the 16 bit. I played it on the genesis and am used to it. I think Hoston looks better 16 bit. The HD is nice though.

  • @Kevin: I feel comfortable in saying I would prefer the HD version of any game I played during the 90s. There might be an exception or two, but I certainly can't think of any. HD Super Mario World, Chrono Trigger, FF VI...yeah, I'd take those over the original versions.

  • I'm the opposite. I don't generally like change. To me, HD "upgrades" somehow make classic games look unpolished or cheap. The HD version of Another World made it look like a Flash game from Newgrounds. And the PSP remake of Mega Man from a few years ago looked like a knockoff from the I-Phone's App Store.

  • I do tend to prefer HD in newer games, though. Mighty Switch Force looks fantastic on Wii U compared with the 3ds version. Maybe it just depends on what I'm used to.

  • Hey Im thinking of getting this game. Would you recommend it? I love RPGs like Earthbound

    Yeahs1
  • You have to REALLY like old school rpgs before I'd recommend it. Battles are random, unlike Earth Bound, and there is very little variety in the enemies. It's also easy to get lost in some of the environments. That being said, I'm still enjoying this game b/c it takes me back to the early 90s when I played these types of games all the time! Watch a few videos if you're not sure.

  • Hey thanks! I'm also a huge fan of chrono trigger and this kinda reminded me of it. I'll watch some videos. How long does it take to complete?

  • I played this a few years ago on the genesis, excited to play it in hd now!

  • It takes about 25 hours. I sunk 15 in 3 days and didn't notice lol
