In the 4th generation, the gunlance's thrust attacks are slower, but the shelling is faster. Also, the upward thrust while blocked was weakened (I'll admit to spamming that, so it's understandable). They also added a new tier to the artillery skill called Artillery Master, and it gives your shells 1.3x damage. In the end, shelling should be a gunlancer's main method of attack in 4G/U.

    This is how they should have worked anyway. It confused why they decided to make the 2 stab upward slash combo of the gunlance do more damage than the 3 stab combo of the lance. If you are good with both there just isn't much of a reason to use a lance over a gunlance in ultimate unless you really like the lances charge attack.

    Yeah. In Tri, I was lance all the way (partially because I was a noob and couldn't dodge, but...). I picked up the GL in 3U because you could use it like a lance pretty well, just using wyvern's fire/full burst whenever the oppurtunity presented itself. I'm afraid, though, because of this I bid the GL adieu when 4U drops and go back to the lance while gaining proficiency in the Charge Axe.

    oh that's a bad news for me as my main weapon is gunlance but now im mastering switchaxe preparing myself for mh4u and i can dodge pretty well now. haha.. i love dodging, compare to blocking, i use less potion.
