Anyone out there use Bows? I'm a light bowgunner, and I have trouble seeing why one would pick bows over bowguns.

  • Why not just use a great sword? I'll hunt with you tonight, pick a time lol.

  • Bows are to bowguns as hammer is to greatsword. You can still do good damage but you have a lot more mobility between attacks without sacrificing damage.

  • I'm just not a greatsword guy Mike. I think I'll stick with my Bowgun. I don't really sacrifice much mobility, and I can shoot a variety of shots without being locked into an elemental type.

  • Mike, will you be around at 10, or is that too late?

  • If you mean 10 EST, yeah I can be awake. I have a late shift tomorrow so I have time.

  • Being "locked into an elemental type" isn't an issue, so long as you choose the correct element! You're more mobile with bows in that you don't evade shorter or slower as you do with an LBG. Also, so many ppl overlook the different shot types bows have at different charge levels, & some of the shot types are quite unique compared to similar bowgun ammo.

  • Arrow coatings are also sometimes overlooked; making proper use of them can result in a weapon that does both elemental & status damage SIMULTANEOUSLY. Finally, the bow's trump card, the arc shot, is also overlooked. While the Blast shot is a nuisance to other ppl (if you're hunting with other ppl), it does good damage & flinches monsters regularly. The Wide & Focus shots can inflict heavy

  • damage, which is very helpful if you're using a Bow whose element attribute is your target monster's weakness. Much as I like Light Bowguns, I do much better soloing with a bow.

  • also buying ammo can be expensive and crafting it can be time consuming. because of this it is not a very apealing option for new hunters in particular.

  • I'm still trying to make the transition from Bowgun to Bow. It seems like you have to give up an awful lot though. Aiming with the bow is much harder, and lack or movement while aiming or a first person scope is tricky. I also miss the wide variety of ammo you can use with a bowgun. Even with special coating, there isn't as much variety with the bow. That being said, there are a few advantages...

  • specifically, rapid firing shots and a decent close range attack are both nice. That backward jump-dodge is great too. But it does feel weird not switching to various different ammo types mid-match.
