Rafalink, after the end of Majora's Mask, Link returned to Hyrule, where he lived out the rest of his life full of regret at the fact that he was never regarded as a hero, as his biggest exploits were defeating Ganondorf in another timeline and saving a parallel world. This regret caused his spirit to linger, seen in TP. Note that the Song of Healing is the first song you howl to the Hero's Shade.
