  • They more than likely used the same programming engine as DKL 2 and ran out of time when developing the Game. To save time, they probably recycled a lot of things from DKL 2 such as the 1-up Balloons as well as most of Dixie's sprites.

  • That does seem to make sense, but they still could have made the 1up balloons have Dixie's face.

  • True, but the Dixie Balloons also had a bit more detail than the Diddy ones in the previous DK Game. It may have been harder for them to render the sprite for it on this Game. Keep in mind they development schedule was probably very tight as each Game was released with only one year between them, so taking as many shortcuts as possible would've lightened their scheduled workload.

  • Also bear in mind, the Game was also colorized as a GBC Only Cart in Japan, so Rare was on a tight schedule to complete and release both the US and JP Versions.

  • I almost forgot something so let me say it real quick before I gotta go to work. While Rare was working on this Game, they were also working on Diddy Kong Racing for the N64 at the same time.

  • I see, although how come the US and Europe didn't get the color version?

  • Also I didn't realize Diddy Kong Racing was being developed at the same time.

  • More than likely, popularity for the Super Game Boy was fading in Japan, so they made it a GBC exclusive there as it came out later in JP than in the US and EU. The US and EU versions were programmed with a color scheme and border for the Super Game Boy. Since Rare is based in England, the US and EU versions were probably developed first, with the JP version being done last.

  • As for Diddy Kong Racing, it was being developed around the same time as this Game. Both Games were eventually released in 1997, roughly a year after DKC 3 and the N64 was released. They also were probably working on Banjo-Kazooie around that time as well, so basically, they were very busy at time and probably had several deadlines to meet with each Game they were working on.
