  • It's partially preference, though I'd say when you can, at least upgrade the weapon(s) you use most. Don't hesitate to forge more weapons & armor though! If what you have is working for you, then keep using it. There will come a time when you'll face a monster who's too tough for your weapon though. It's maximum sharpness may not be enough to cut through it's hide, or lack shot power.

  • Immediately. The starter weapons are so weak, you can bearly beat a Jaggi with them. Upgrading your gear is the driving mechanic behind the game. After you choose a favorite weapon, your mission and obsession should be to upgrade it to as high a level as possible, as quickly as possible. Same with Armor. Leather will get you killed. You NEED better gear ASAP. The game is impossible otherwise.

  • My preferred weapon type is long sword yet I've only unlocked the Iron Katana and the CanineKatana

  • Ignore the "Outfitter" who sells them for cash. Talk to the "Wyverian Artisan", look under Weaponcraft and Upgrade. Find out what you need to upgrade what you have, learn where you get those things and then make collecting them your highest priority. That, or craft something new that is stronger. Only if you CAN'T upgrade any further should you ever settle for what you have ... until you can.

  • The strongest weapons and armor (don't forget to collect and apply armor spheres) you can craft from the quests you have access to at you current Star Level / Hunter-Rank are what you are meant to have when tackling the next level of quests beyond that. The cycle of upgrades will never end. You are always fighting for the next upgrade. Welcome To "Monster Hunter".
